Turner

Turner is a hunter, that belongs to the race of Rabbits. He is the hero of Lugaru and is expected to return in Overgrowth.

History

Due to Turner's mysteriously good fighting, many theories have arisen as to where Turner has come from, and who trained him. Two more popular theories are listed below:

Human captivity theory

This theory states that Turner is not originally from the island, he was raised in captivity, and experimented[1] on cruelly by large beings known as humans. During these experimentations, Turner was fed a drug called albuterol[2]. This caused him to quickly gain muscle mass and also increased his speed and reaction times. With his newfound potency, Turner managed to escape his captors, and hid away in a supplies closet, eating and gaining strength. He was then able to stow away on a flying machine, which took him to the island, where the humans collected more rabbits. Turner then joined the rabbit community, and soon found his talent for hunting. He then met his wife Sarah, and they had a daughter April. It is here that the gameplay begins.

Forgotten tribe theory

In this theory, Turner is out alone as a child, wandering the hills, as he enjoyed doing. He stumbles across an old looking stone circle, however he can find no trace of any inhabitance. Intrigued by this find, he returned day after day, making sure he was alone before heading towards the stone circle. This continued until September he 14th (known as rabbit day). On this particular day, when he strolled over the hilltop, bringing the stones into view, he was surprised to see a group of robed figures, all seemingly chanting. Being an inquisitive child, he crept closer, staying out of sight. However, as soon as he got close, all the robed figures abruptly halted their chanting, and turned in his direction. Afraid now, Turner turned to flee, but he had not noticed that another group of figures had followed him, and he was now surrounded. The robed people blind folded him, and took him to their underground cave, where it was revealed to him that this was an ancient tribe of warrior rabbits, who only venture above ground on that particular day. He learned that now he knew about them, he would have to learn their ways and become one of them. So, for the next few years, Turner trained and practiced his skills, he learned new techniques that he had never imagined before, including the legendary rabbit kick. After his fourth year in the caves, he was deemed ready to be accepted into the tribe, and he was to travel with them to the stone circle to complete his induction. However, Turner discovered that first, he was to complete a blood test, he had to capture and kill one of his own village members. Turner stealthily crept into his old town, and gagged and bound a frail looking old woman. As he dragged her back to the circle to complete the ritual, she whispered to him "please, you can kill me, just don't kill my lovely daughter Sarah". With a bolt of dismay, Turner realized that this woman was the mother of his childhood sweetheart, however it was too late, the other tribesmen were around him, urging him to finish the job. One rabbit put a knife in his hand, and the tribe leader approached. "Now, my son, it is time!" he exclaimed, "It is time to become one of us!". Turner turned the knife in his hand, before quickly plunging it into his victim. Instead of the glory he knew he should be feeling, he felt only remorse, and sorrow for this woman's death, and all of a sudden, he realized what a monster he had become, how this cruel forgotten tribe had bent him to become a cold killer. Turner stood up, wiping off the blood on his fur, as was the tradition. But then, all of a sudden, Turner swung around and threw the knife into the leader's neck. The tribesmen, unsure of what to do, gathered around the leader to help him, while Turner made off to the village. Once he returned to the village, he vowed to himself never to tell anyone about this tribe, lest they seek it out and become part of it too. The only person he told of his experiences was the woman's daughter, Sarah, and they decided that they should move to another village, further away. On arrival, Turner and Sarah married, and bore a child named April. It was at this point that Turner had to pick up his fighting skills again as a new threat rolled over the land, and this is where the game begins.

In Lugaru

In Lugaru, Turner is a hunter living peacefully in a village in the southern part of the Lugaru Island with his wife, Sarah, and his daughter, April. They are however killed by Raiders, in part due to Jack's betrayal.

At the end of Lugaru, Turner refuses to take over the Rabbit King's position, and leaves to wander the Lugaru island in search of a new meaning for his life.

In the level folder of Lugaru, there is an extra level where Turner becomes king.

In Overgrowth

There are no details about Turner's role in Overgrowth, however he is expected to return.
