Hickory was the king at the time of the events that took place in Lugaru.

He was corrupt, and he made a deal with the wolves, to enslave all the rabbits on the island, if they didn't hurt him.

None of that mattered when Turner found out about the plot and came after him.

Turner killed Hickory, and freed the island of Lugaru.
